This article is so accurate. I bought a Honda lawnmower at a big box store, thinking i had "a Honda." When it needed repairing I took it to a Lawn specialty company with a repair shop - they could fix it, but told me I had a 'big box honda,' meaning a stripped down and not as reliable Honda. After repairing that Honda every year for three years I gave it away. I went to that landscape professional and bought his full on Honda. I've only had oil changes and blade sharpens the last 7 years! And now, although I like the reliability of my better Honda, I feel like this manufacturer let me throw away about $400 on an inferior product with their brand name on it. Maybe I'll choose a Toro next time.
But you still fall for it... you walk into the big box, or search on Amazon, and think price instead of what you're really getting. Will the big manufacturers (doors, plumbing fixtures, windows, insulation, roofing, paint) be willing to hold the integrity of their products against the demands of big box and big online for a price advantage?
